Shiurim (classes)
  • July 23, 2010, Shabbat Nachamu, Young Israel of West Rogers Park is proud to present Yishai Fleisher of Israel National Radio at 6:30 PM, followed by seudah shelishit. He will speak on "Israel: A Heart of Flesh in a World with a Heart of Stone".

Israel is a miracle and is the most exciting project of the Jewish people in two-thousand years. Yet this young country is in ever present danger, from within and from without. How do we help Israel regain her self-confidence in a hostile world which seeks her destruction? How do we balance the modern needs of a democratic nation-state with the vision of a Jewish Homeland powered by Jewish principles? How do we bring about a sense of unity in the Holy Land? What can we do to assure Israel's success in this trying moment of need?

Anyone wishing to sponsor either seudah shelishit or Yishai's talk can do so by clicking on the Donate link at the top of this e-mail, or by going to our website at http://www.youngisraelwrp.com and clicking on the Donate button there. Please use the comment field to say what your donation is for.

  • We are still accepting donations for the Arthur and Sally Dordek Judaic Library. A list of books can be found at http://www.youngisraelwrp.com/booklist.html, and forms may be found at the shul. It's a great way to fulfill your Yizkor pledge.
  • The Young Israel of West Rogers Park discussion forum can be found at http://forum.jchicagoland.net/viewforum.php?f=12. You may notice a distinct lack of people posting on the site. Other Announcements
  • Dear Friends,

Matan is always looking for meaningful ways to serve communities around the globe--such as our Israeli Summer Program and our mother-daughter bat mitzvah programs in 60 locations around the globe.

We are excited to announce that we are piloting a learning convention for ALL women to inspire and provide skills and in-depth-study, suitable for lay leaders, teachers and the community-at-large.
This greater-Chicago women's learning convention will hosted at Kehilat Chovevei Tzion on July 18-20--please save the dates.

This convention is not simply a collection of great classes but we intend for it to become an annual event to give a boost to women's learning throughout the year. Matan speakers will join with local talent for inspiring lectures that not only probe difficult texts such as Job and Kohelet, but also impart skills and resources to take home and implement. It is our hope that this conference will also be a spring board for lay and professional educators from a variety of congregations and backgrounds to meet and network.

Details and schedule are available in the flier at http://www.youngisraelwrp.com/Matan_learning_program_final.pdf. Please help us spread the word. You are invited to join our recruitment committee. Please e-mail me with your address and/or addresses of others you feel would be interested. A full brochure with registration form will be mailed out in the next couple of weeks--we look forward to seeing you there!

    Sincerely,
    Jordanna Cope-Yossef
    Director, Advanced Talmudic Institute, Matan
